Description

These parmesan cheese onion rings are thick, golden, and ultra-crispy without deep-frying. Made with sweet onions, real Parmesan, and panko breadcrumbs, they offer a cheesy, savory crunch that’s both nostalgic and gourmet.


Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet onions (Vidalia or Walla Walla), sliced into ½-inch rings
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Olive oil spray
  • Ice water for soaking

Instructions

  1. Slice onions into ½-inch thick rings and separate into full circles. Soak in ice water for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven or air fryer to 375°F.
  3. Set up a dredging station: Bowl 1 – flour, garlic powder, paprika, and salt; Bowl 2 – beaten eggs; Bowl 3 – mix of Parmesan and panko.
  4. Drain and pat onions dry. Dip each ring into flour, then egg, then Parmesan-panko mix. Press coating on firmly.
  5. Place on a wire rack or air fryer basket. Lightly spray with olive oil.
  6. Bake or air fry for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For extra crispiness, use freshly grated Parmesan and sweet onions like Vidalia. Avoid overcrowding during baking or air frying to keep rings crisp.
